Smart Teams

The goal for my final bachelor project (FBP) was to create a wearable device that could help athletes improve their cognitive processing speed, anticipation and motor speed within a team. By pushing the athlete beyond existing limits, competitiveness will enhance opportunities for co-adaptation, innovation and creativity, which can lead individuals towards higher performances.

The goal of my FBP has been reached with Smart Teams, which I have created in a collaboration with the company Smartgoals. It is a system of LED integrated ribbons designed for athletes in team aspect, that can evolve their attack vs defence switch and playing speed during several training forms. By turning a plain ribbon into an electronical system, athletes in team sports, can evolve their speed even further than before. The coach of the team can change the colour of each individual ribbon using the app, a player will then feel a vibration after which a change of colour takes place.

Research shows that ⅓ of the goals within field hockey are made after a switch between offense and defence. It is therefore important to train this at a high level, which is possible with Smart Teams.
